Bedroom winter warmers

I think the bedroom is far more important to get right in the winter months, because I don’t know about you, but in the colder months I spend loads more time in bed; going to bed earlier and sleeping in later. The nights are cold and damp and the sun goes down so early!

Making your bedroom cosy and looking amazing comes down to a few key elements.

1 Choose a Winter Colour Combo.

An inviting space is all about balancing the various elements, and none is more important than colour! In winter, make sure you bring in a warmer tones to the bedroom. Warm greys and earth tones add a cosy feel to any room. If you have White bedlinen, which is my personal favourite, add warmth with accessories in warmer tones. You don't need to change the whole bedroom, adding cushions, fur throws or a blanket in warm colours is a great way to warm up a cool colour scheme. Below is a great example of this trick, warmer colours in the bedroom accessories creates warmth to this white bedlinen.

2. Add an Upholstered Bedhead

An Upholstered bedhead will bring an instant sense of warmth to your space. A simple thing to remember is that texture will add instant warmth. I have a loose cover on my headboard and can change it up with the seasons. Fluffy textures, course weaves all add to the illusion of warmth in the winter. If your bedhead is hard or cold add large euro cushions to cover the hard surface and add an extra softness and warmth.

3. Introduce Wood Tones

A bed or bedside tables made from wood are going to inject instant warmth like no other material can. If the bedroom furniture has a touch of Scandinavian to it and the wood is light, or if the bed is darker wood this will instantly create warmth.
Quick tip - the wood grain running horizontally in the bedhead will also make the space feel larger; any horizontal lines will do this.

This bedroom from Love Chic Living shows just how wood can warm up a bedroom.

4. Add a rug

Whether your room is carpeted or not, by adding a beautiful plush or shaggy rug will add a touch of luxe and warmth to your boudoir. Nobody likes to get out of bed onto a cold floor, not even in the summer! A soft luxurious rug will make your exit from bed a little easier, especially in the winter!

5. Layer up your bedding

Adding extra layers to your bedlinen is not only practical and keeps you warm, but is also adds to the cosy, homely looks you want for your bedroom in the winter months.
I bring out the fur throw and beautiful grey blanket in the winter and add both of these to my bed.
Warning! - It’s a struggle every morning to get up because my bed is so cosy!
Swapping your summer cushions for more textured and fluffy cushion covers in the winter or adding a chunky knitted throw, is another budget friendly way to change things up in the cooler seasons.
Some duvet covers and sheets are also thermoregulating, bamboo is known to regulate your body temperature. Keeping you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. This is one reason I love my Loom Living bedding. The beautiful colours can be used in both winter and summer and the fabric is perfect for all seasons.
A plain colour pallet allows you to add your own style and accessories and change these with the seasons without having to change all your bedlinen.
This bedroom below is a perfect example of a cool colour scheme being made into a cosy winter boudoir with the addition of chunky throw and cushion as well as a fur. Layered perfection!
